The bait has its own action and will wiggle and shake as it falls. When the fish strikes, generally there's little doubt, reel down and set the hook. If the bait settles to the bottom give it three or four jerks using the rod tip. Then let the bait fall free again. This gives the bait the look of escaping baitfish running to the surface. Gulp!
